DENTAL MISSIONS

Dr. Fisher has been blessed by helping the under-served and less fortunate receive necessary dental care through dental missions both at home and abroad. He also enjoys teaching, training and mentoring other dentists and is pleased to be able to combine these two activities through Lake Pointe Church with various mission endeavors.

Russia

Dr. Fisher has travelled to Russia over twelve times since 2002, often taking family members with him to help serve during these dental missions. He has been blessed to work through Lake Pointe Church to engage and develop a number of ministries in Naberezhny Chelny, Menzelinsk, Elabuga, and Moscow. He has particularly enjoyed teaching and training dentists there in various methods and techniques used here at home. And he has been blessed to be able to help equip growing practices there with equipment we take for granted here, such as sterilizers and x-ray machines.

Mexico

Through the ATAC ministry working in conjunction with his church, Dr. Fisher and various members of his staff have made three dental mission trips to central Mexico since 2008, working in the Fresnillo and the Ciudad Victoria areas. Private pilots donate their time and their airplanes to fly dentists and their staffs to remote areas, often small privately funded orphanages, that don’t otherwise have access to dental care. Often, as many as 100 children and adults are seen each day for cleanings, check-ups, fillings, and any emergency care that may be needed

South Africa

One of his newest dental mission endeavors, Dr. Fisher was blessed to make two trips to South Africa in 2010. His initial vision trip was to evaluate access to dental care for the Zulu poor living in remote and rural areas inland from Port Shepstone, on the Indian Ocean. He then gathered a group of individuals through his church and community who matched the contribution he and his wife made to raise a total of nearly $50,000 to purchase portable dental equipment that could be used anywhere in the field. This equipment was donated to our local church partner there, where it is being used twice a week by local dentists who donate their time to serve the underprivileged in their areas.

Lake Rockwall Estates

Right in our own backyard is a large population of people, many immigrants from Mexico, who are hard working contributors to the local economy, but due to language or financial barriers have not had access to quality dental care. Multiple times a year, Dr. Fisher, members of his team, and local dentists with their staffs, set up portable equipment in Lake Pointe Church’s Lake Rockwall Estates Community Center. Typically, over a hundred people each session are seen for routine cleanings and oral cancer screenings, to fillings and emergency care that may be needed.

Angels from Abroad

In conjunction with his work in Russia, another area of ministry evolved. Angels From Abroad are groups of Russian orphans sponsored by Buckner Children’s Home who make the trip to the U.S. each year or two in search of adoptive families. There is an orphan crisis in Russia with many more children entering the system each year than are graduated or adopted. This ministry typically hosts 15 – 20 children each trip, and while they are here Dr. Fisher and his team dedicate an entire day to taking care of any dental needs they or their adult chaperones from Russia may have.

If have any questions about any of the ministries mentioned, or would like to offer support in any way, please feel free to contact to Dr. Fisher at mike@fzdentistry.com.
